Let's take a look first at some of the size and weight comparisons between the two bags.

Alpaka Elements Tech Case:

  • Size: 9.5 x 6 x 3 inches / 24.13 x 15.24 x 7.62 cm
  • Weight: 0.8 pounds / 0.36 kg
  • Total capacity: 2.5 liters

Alpaka Elements Tech Case Max:

  • Size: 11 x 7 x 3.5 inches / 27.94 x 17.78 x 8.89 cm
  • Weight: 1.3 pounds / 0.59 kg
  • Total capacity: 4.5 liters

First, let's start with the similarities between the two cases. Both the Alpaka Elements Tech Case and Tech Case Max look very similar visually. But the Max has nearly double the capacity and a few other additional features that make it a better option in my opinion. The Max has the newer designed zipper pulls and a grab handle at the top whereas the regular one does not have zipper pulls (newer additions of the regular tech case do now have the same zipper pulls as the Max). The Max also has a grab handle where the original doesn't. The Max also has a loop on the middle in the bottom which is for adding an option stabilising strap. The original doesnt have this feature.

One thing I didnt like about the original tech case is that the zips without the zipper pulls are quite noisy and make sound when you're walking with them. This isnt an issue with the Max, and actually has been resolved on newer models of the original tech case. Another thing the Max has is a divider with a hidden magnetic snap shut compartment which is very handing for stashing small items. The original size version doesn't have any magnetic compartments but it does have a lot of compartments to store a wide variety of items including cards, sd cards, pens and more.

Overall I preferred the improved features and layout of the Max over the original version but now that the original has been upgraded it matches in many ways. I still would recommend the Max over the original size as I think the Max doesn't really feel much bigger but it really does offer a lot more for the price and is more versatile as a result.
